Title: Running Wilde
Author: Tonya Burrows
Year of publication: 2016
The heroine: Waitress Lark Warren
The hero: Ex-Navy SEAL/Wilde Security private investigator Vaughn Wilde
The blurb: Lark Warren can never stay one person for too long, so when her past starts to catch up to her, she hops the first bus out of DC, steals a new name, and goes deep into hiding in New Orleans. Unfortunately, all it takes is the wrong set of eyes to blow her cover. Enter Vaughn—the man she once let too close to her real self.
Ex-Navy SEAL Vaughn Wilde has one objective: drive Lark back to DC to face charges for identity theft—which would be easier if he could forget the three lust-filled weeks he shared with her before she disappeared. With each passing mile, he can’t ignore the heat still sparking between them…or the fact he has led her enemies right to her.
Lark can’t stay with Vaughn, not when it will put him in the crosshairs of the dangerous man she’s spent the last five years running from. But Vaughn is determined to keep her safe—even if it means she’ll run off with his heart all over again.
Standalone or series: This is book four in the Wilde Security series, but can be read as a standalone
The review: My love for the Wilde brothers continues in book four of the series. This one is about Cam’s twin, Vaughn. He’s the moodiest of the brothers, the one who seems to keep himself hidden the most. He’s been fascinated by the woman who called herself Lark Warren since he met her in Key West, while his family was there for Jude’s wedding. She’d just broken off her engagement to Eva’s (Cam’s wife) ex and ended up spending several weeks holed up with Vaughn, until one day she simply disappeared.
Vaughn is determined to find her. Since she vanished, he’s found out her name isn’t Lark Warren, or any of the half dozen aliases she’s used over the last five years. He doesn’t even know why he keeps looking, but something about her has wrapped around his heart and he can’t rest until he finds her and knows she’s safe.
When a friend calls to say he’s spotted her in New Orleans, Vaughn bolts down there and eventually captures her. He tells her he’s taking her back to DC to turn her in for identity theft, and Lark – or Sage, as she’s now known – begs him not to. Lark is not the only thing he’s got on his mind; he’s found himself accidentally being pursued by the head of a mafia family, who wants him to do a job. Giuseppe Bellisario doesn’t take no for an answer, so between him, Lark, and whomever is after her, Vaughn’s got his hands full.
He eventually finds out Lark’s identity and when Cam gets kidnapped by the person Lark has been running from for so many years, Vaughn finds himself facing an impossible choice – his brother or his lover? I’m not going to spoil it for you because you have to read it for yourself. I’m just going to say this is another fabulous installment in the Wilde Security series and I’m going to miss them when I finish the last book.
