Review: In Between Heartaches by Amanda Cuff

The heroine: Addison McCormick

The hero: Chase Prescott

The blurb: Addison McCormick has everything. A handsome fiancé, wealth, and a lucrative career as a lawyer at her father’s firm. But when she catches her soon-to-be-husband cheating, she has to start anew.

Now, single, unemployed, and heartbroken, she decides a vacation is just what she needs to escape the wreckage in L.A.—and serene Colorado is calling her name.

What she doesn’t expect to find there is Chase Prescott: the sexy, brooding owner of the cabin she’s renting. She sees him as nothing more than a vacation boyfriend, a quick and dirty fling to help her get over her recent heartbreak.

But she soon discovers his mysterious aura is not just a front, and the fantasy world they create will crash head-on with their harsh reality.

What happens when a relationship meant only to last a few days becomes something that might last a lifetime?

Standalone or series: This is part one in the Hearts in Waiting duet.

The review: I was impressed by this debut of Amanda Cuff’s. It was well written and I really enjoyed reading about Addison and Chase, and their romance.

Addison decides to flee to Colorado after finding her fiance cheating on her and walking out on her job at her cold father’s law firm, where the fiance also happens to work. She takes her best friend with her and they rent a cabin. When they meet the neighbours, one of whom’s family happens to own the resort, sparks fly between the four. Addison is instantly attracted to Chase, although he seems aloof at first, and it doesn’t take long before they act on their desire for each other.

The lust between them burns hot and the sex is awesome, but then Chase leaves suddenly without explanation. Addison chalks it up to a vacation fling, although she finds herself missing Chase a lot. Then she finds out something that has her heading back to Denver to find him, but once she’s there she discovers a few things Chase neglected to tell her.

This ends on a cliffhanger as it’s the first in a duet, and while I won’t reveal the twist, I will say it’s not something I’m a fan of. However, I enjoyed this story enough to want to read what happens next, and I look forward to more books from Amanda.

Review: Dating Roulette by D. Kelly

dating rouletteTitle: Dating Roulette

Author: D. Kelly

Year of publication: Out today! The author kindly gave me a copy to read and review

The heroine: Bexley Scott

The hero: Tristan Jacobs

The blurb: Bexley

Seven Dates.
Seven chances to win my heart.
It’s not hard –
Don’t put ketchup on your eggs.
Don’t wear tasseled loafers.
For the love of all that’s Holy, don’t ogle the waitress.
See? Simple…
Yet no one can get it right.

Tristan

Dating Roulette.
It’s Bexley’s game.
Correction – it’s her life.
A constant rotation of dates.
You might get one; you might get seven.
No one has ever gotten to eight.
There’s only one rule –
Don’t commit a dating sin.
I’ve watched for years and bided my time.
Now, it’s my turn to play.
And I play to win.

Standalone or series: Standalone

The review: I’ve read a lot of best friends to lovers romances because it’s my favourite trope, and this one? Is one of the best. Bexley and Tristan have been best friends for ten years and roommates for five. Bexley has what Tristan fondly refers to as the dating roulette; no man ever makes it past seven dates. But when Tristan realises he wants to be the first man to make it to the eighth, he pulls out all the stops. When a misunderstanding between them threatens to derail the romance before it ever really gets started, neither of them are willing to give up without a fight.

There were so many things I loved about this book. Their friendship. The way they knew all of each other’s quirks and habits. The affection between them before they realised how they felt about each other. Tristan taking the relationship seriously, wanting to show Bexley he meant it. Bexley’s journal writing habit. Bexley taking the lead sexually. This book is a great read, and you’re seriously missing out if you don’t pick it up.
